The offer by the Kelantan Menteri Besar to pay RM10,000 to Muslims who marry Orang Asli is an act which gives the wrong impression of converting to Islam.
Can the Islamic faith be bought with a mere RM10,000? Will this amount bring a believer to the truth path? Prior to Nik Aziz's open offer, there were many conversions for monetary gains, very common among the Chinese and Indian converts.
There is very little effort and commitment from the respective religious affairs department to conduct follow-up classes and provide continuous guidance to new converts. A large number of those (who apostatised) were people who had embraced Islam and decided to leave.
It will be more fruitful to spend that RM10,000 on consolidating the faith of liberal Muslims to make them more devout Muslims rather than putting up headhunting rewards which will produce future apostates.
