Forget about the cabinet, Umno and Barisan Nasional leaders who said Pak Lah did well in the recent TV3 interview. I am disappointed with the others who also praised the PM for his 'frankness'.
What a load of poppycock (to borrow the term once used by King Ghaz, former foreign minister). What a way to break the so-called 'elegant silence'. In the first place, Pak Lah said nothing. If at all he said anything, they were all half-baked, thanks to half-past six questions from the Grand Inquisitor Annuar Zaini, chairman of Bernama and one of PM's own confidants.
If he is truly sincere, he should ask for three senior journalists not from RTM, Bernama , New Straits Times or The Star . What was the point of the interview? Everything must have been thoroughly stage-managed and scripted.
On Khairy Jamaluddin and Kamaluddin Abdullah alone, Pak Lah's answers were far from convincing. On Khairy's purchase of three percent of ECM-Libra, Annuar should have tackled Pak Lah on the ethics of the deal and the legal implications because he (Khairy) and Second Finance Minister Nor Mohamad Yakcop are related or friends of ECM director Kalimullah Hassan.
Annuar also should have armed himself with records of contracts that were gained by Scomi (Kamaluddin's company), records on the rise and rise of Scomi stocks as well as its market cap since Pak Lah became PM.
But most of all, I wonder why Pak Lah chose to break his silence in a TV interview. Why should he ignore the MPs who are equally eager to ask him to clarify these matters which are causing concern among their constituents.
His explanation should be done over five days during PM's question time in the Dewan Rakyat.
Similarly, Ku Li's suggestion that Tun M be given a fair go with a special Umno congress is also a good idea.
