It's that time of the political season again - Umno Youth attacking other partners in BN in order to grab headlines and show that they are still the champion of the Malay agenda.

This time, perhaps, it all came about because of the threats posed by Anwar Ibrahim to Umno in his home state. Surely, grabbing the Penang's chief minister's post 'for the Malays' is a very useful agenda to score points with the voters in the coming election.

My pity goes to the Umno branches in all the other states, because they can't find any non-Malay CM as scapegoats for the 'plights of Malays'. Unless, of course, if the Malays in states like Terengganu, Pahang, Perlis and Kedah - ruled by Umno's Malay MBs - are doing much better compared to their brothers and sisters in Penang.

Whenever the non-Malays complained about policies which are unfair to them, the justification always used by Umno is that they are agreed to by the cabinet 'collectively', 'by consensus', 'in the BN spirit', and therefore nobody should complain about it. If they do, they must do it through their respective 'BN partners' and raise them 'in the cabinet, not in public'.

Surely, that must also be the way BN in Penang governs the state as well? Or is Koh Tsu Koon a dictator who never lets his exco members speak? Or are these Umno Youth members saying that only the CM can make any real decision - in which case, non-Umno parties in all states should start shouting for rotation of all the menteri besar and CM posts as well as the prime minister's post.

Given that Umno is well-represented in the Penang exco, including by the deputy CM, how can they now complain that Malays have not been well looked after by the state government? To be accurate, if they indeed have not been well looked after, surely it's the fault of Umno Penang, being an influential member of the Penang BN coalition.

Therefore, it's bizarre that only Koh is targeted. The first head to roll should be Abdul Rashid, the deputy CM, for failing to take care of his community adequately, 'in the BN spirit', after all these years.
