I am writing with such a disappointment and regret to note that the Selangor state authority is taking such a long time to give consent for the purchase of leasehold property in the Klang Valley.

In December 2004, I signed a Sales and Purchase (S&P) agreement to buy a sub-sale leasehold property. As per the requirement of the Selangor state authority on leasehold property, the seller's lawyers submitted the application for consent to transfer the purchased property to my name to the Pejabat Daerah/Tanah Petaling early March 2005.

Only on October 2005 (after seven months of waiting), we received a reply from the authorities that the application for transfer of the property was rejected based on 'private and confidential' reasons which cannot be revealed by the concerned authorities.

With great disappointment, on December 2005, I opted to buy a newly completed leasehold property which has a got a Certificate of Fitness in Taman Bukit Serdang. I signed the S&P agreement in December 2005 and the developer's lawyers submitted the application for consent to transfer the property to my name. It has been five months now and we are yet to get any reply from the concerned authorities.

I have waited and wasted two years previously, how long should I wait this time? I will be very happy if the concerned authorities can tell me the answer because moving to a new house needs a lot of planning and commitment.

It's sad to hear from some of the buyers of leasehold property around Klang Valley that the concerned authorities might even take more than a year to reply. Can the concerned authorities and officials from the ministry involved explain why such a problem still occurs and what are the actions being taken to overcome this problem? There have been so many complaints from the public on this matter.
