I refer to FN's Chinese M'sians must accept their lot .

I would like to reply to what I see is very weak reasoning on the part of the author of this letter. He should realise that firstly the non-Malays are not immigrants but are citizens of Malaysia. Immigrants come and go when opportunities arise; only citizens stay.

Likewise, in Singapore most who are called Malays are descendants of Bugis, Javanese and Arabs. Only a very small community can trace their roots to Singapore before the British arrived. If the British had not arrived and developed Singapore, most of these immigrants would not have bothered about Singapore. Hence, considering the non-Malays as immigrants only supports a fallacy which has been fed to the people like the author.

By putting economic restrictions on a particular community you are not helping Malaysia. You are also eventually not helping the Malays. Instead you are helping countries like Singapore which welcomes these people. The world is becoming a smaller place. Sooner or later with the opening of Malaysia, policies like the New Economic Policy will only leave the Malay community lagging further behind then they were in 1957.

However, I do agree that Malays are at a particular disadvantage due to colonial greed. Help should be provided for all those who are disadvantaged. Rather people end up using race as a card and start siphoning off the money. Like in 'Animal Farm', the man (farmer) was chased away only for the pigs to take his place.

As far as the author's remark on the ministers remarks go, the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition has its own way to deal with its problems. I suggest that the author finds ways to deal with his frustrations.
