I refer to M Bakri Musa's article entitled Grooming the next generation of leaders .

It is distressing and sickening to read the article written by the good surgeon from Silicon Valley, especially the disparaging remarks made about the prime minister. I have known his (the PM's) late father and him for well over 30 years.

The father was my peer in Umno and the Penang state government and I think I was closer to the father than he (the PM) was, as I know he was closer to his grandfather who was a highly respected religious man and the mufti of Penang.

It was at his feet that he learnt his religion and the Quran. It hurts me to read that his piety is considered just a charade or a facade. Who is the good surgeon to say that. I beg of him to fear God for He is All Forgiving and All Powerful.

I have been working with the PM in Umno through thick and thin and have been watching him closely in all the campaigns whether those involving Umno or general elections. I can without hesitation say that when it comes to cleanliness in money politics, he is head and shoulders above the rest.

In fact, I was told in Sabah that when he was campaigning there for Umno vice-president, he started by saying he had nothing to offer the delegates and yet he had their majority votes.

Further, with regards to Bakri's article, what is wrong if an undergraduate changes his course and pursues another discipline. I am aware of many who have done that and that they are now leaders in their profession. O my good surgeon, is not that hitting below the belt?

Pak Lah is Pak Lah. He has his shortcomings like all of us. It is incumbent on us to tell him in a proper way where he has gone wrong. I know he is that humble enough to listen without any rancour or vengeance.
