I refer to the malaysiakini report, Nazri: Umno members are immune to graft laws .

Utterly rubbish! Nazri's opinion that Umno members are immune to graft laws because their actions in the party have nothing to do with the public and does not involve their (public) interests, deserves greater public scrutiny and debate.

He added that the definition of bribery is different in the context of party matters as opposed to the current laws of the country. His given reason: 'money politics in Umno does not involve public funds or public projects.'

Is Nazri suggesting that Umno members, not forgetting that many of their leaders are also in government (public domain), should be subjected to a separate set of morality laws under the protective refuge of the political umbrella of the party? Or is Nazri suggesting that ACA cannot act against any Umno government minister who, as a member, has 'paid or bought' a high position in an Umno election contest?

That their fate can only be determined by the party's moral enforcers? (It was the former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad who pushed for the practice that the party's decision on internal affairs should be final and not subjected to the court of law.)

But can the Malaysian public accept Umno as an effective and truthful enforcer on principles of morality and integrity besides being the backbone of our national governance? Malaysian voters should take Nazri's opinion very seriously at the next general election not forgetting the many cases and allegations of corruption cum abuse of power facing Umno today.
