The myriad of issues plaguing the political topography of our beloved nation is certainly troubling by any standard.
If we take the daily breaking news in our papers and television and the Internet, it does not demand much thinking to figure out that things are not right in a country that has weathered serious political, economic and social storms these past 20 over years.
Yet, instead of focusing on the economic challenges looming in the not too distant future, we are increasingly falling victim to a host of issues ranging from total disregard to law and enforcement to poor leadership and decision-making and religious and ethnic posturing.
It is about time that someone took the bull by the horns and put our national pursuit for economic betterment back on track.
It is also about time that the government of the day crack the whip to ensure that all the unhealthy politicking and destructive elements are steam-rolled.
It is about time that we debated, reviewed and commit to policies and actions that will stop the nation from hemorrhaging slowly from the unnecessary wounds being inflicted by so much of suspicion, greed and hatred in our midst.
The globalising future will not bring any salvation to people who lose time and squander their resources owing to a lack of focus.
So let us stop the corrosive antics and continue building on our strengths and not be weakened by follies. But that is common sense. And when common sense is lost, we are heading for broke.
