The Malaysian government is keen to make headlines in the international tabloids by being the first, having the fastest or building the tallest, longest and so on. We have seen how our rakyat's money is spent just to get into the Guinness World of Records Book and to catch the eyes of the international public and journalists.
Our former prime minister is well-known for lashing out at Western countries whenever he had the chance, just to get himself well-known and famous. He always wanted the glory for himself.
In the meantime, our local so-called genius politicians are busy digging into the gold mine in partnership with rich businessmen and tycoons. They're making tons of money for themselves and for their cronies while they are still in their 'money-making' seats.
So who really cares for us? Who really cares for the innocent rakyat? Who really cares for the ordinary people of all walks of life, the teachers, bus drivers, clerks, factory workers, technicians, zoo-keepers, ice-cream sellers, fishermen, electricians, nurses, trishaw riders, farmers, shopkeepers, smallscale businessmen, the unemployed, etc.
Who wants the tallest buildings when our complaints about clogged drains, dirty drinking water, costly consumer products, stray dogs, poor public transport, illegal fire crackers, uneven roads, potholes, noisy discos, dirty public toilets and poor government services among many others all fall on deaf ears?
Who wants mega-projects when illegal races, rapes, murders, snatch thefts, break-ins, road bullies, corrupted policemen, corrupted civil servants and corrupted politicians are on the rise?
To add salt to the wound, a new sport complex is proposed to be built in England to raise the standard of local sportsmen and women.
Pak Lah and his allies must wake up and undertake only what really benefits the citizens of this country. Build more schools, government hospitals, universities, playgrounds, football fields and libraries and other public amenities
Recruit more policemen, teachers, improve our education system, make public transport more reliable and effective, the list goes on. We have a lot to achieve and enjoy in this beautiful land but our money is just being wasted and swindled by irresponsible and undeserved politicians in the name of mega-projects. May God save our country.
