It was 1987 and I was in Standard Six. My dad hired a guy to taxi me to school and back everyday. The problem was he drove an old jalopy. How I hated to be seen in this car.

However the 'pakcik' was in his fifties and was a wonderful person. We had deep, meaningful conversations everyday. I wonder if he knew I was embarrassed to be seen in his car. I know that would have broken his heart as his old jalopy was his prized possession.

How he would wipe the car every single day when he arrived five minutes early to pick me up from school. And how I would run frantically towards his car before my other school mates came out to see me getting into that old, faithful jalopy.

I would call him Pakcik Carrington because he bore close resemblance to the character Blake Carrington from the TV series, 'Dynasty' played by John Forsythe.

One day I noticed a new sticker on the back of his car. It read 'Kami Mahu Two Car'. I asked him what it meant. He grinned and told me that everyone dreams of owning two cars and he added that he wanted Razaleigh to win.

I just smiled back at him and thought to myself, 'What was my primary school headmaster, Tuan Razali trying to win?'

Today, I wonder if my old friend is still alive. I would like to ask him for that sticker.
