I refer to the letter Thrill of first visit to M'sia dampened . I found this letter by Brad Shepherd to be amazing and cute in which the writer described his encounter with Malaysian immigration officers. If he thinks Malaysian immigration officer behave military-like and are unfriendly, I am sure many Malaysian and others who have passed through the Australian immigration checkpoints at any of the Australian airports would have experienced worse encounters.

I have been in and out of Australia umpteen times and not once have I received a warm reception from an immigration or customs officer working at any of the major airports. I even had dogs sniffing at me from my waist to my legs; all this done without any even a acknowledgment from the dog handler.

You can forget about apologies, as Australians do not understand this term. Not only are Australian immigrations and customs officers unfriendly, they will stop you anywhere in the airport just to look at your passport, making comments like 'Do you understand English', 'Aren't you Asian?' or 'What is your purpose or business in Australia?'.

They then force you to remove your belt and shoes, telling you that you will be fined from this and that. I suppose in a country with no soul, what would you expect.

I hope Shepherd will first examine the kind of officers and people that exist in his own country before commenting on others.
