I refer to the malaysiakini report FTA 'not quick-fix solution' for NEP woes .

I think we should not criticise our government just for the sake of criticism. First of all, our budget deficit has been reduced from a high of 8% to the current 4%.

If our prime minister was corrupt why has he reined in government spending? The current administration is less likely to spend, spend and spend compared to some previous administrations. The current PM is frugal and this has not gone down well with some quarters.

Lastly, the US is an immensely important trading partner. Malaysia owes its prosperity due to the lopsided exports trade in our favour. Our non-petroleum product exports to free trade countries like the US, Singapore and Japan just means we have to better regulate our trade with these countries.

Hence the need for an FTA with the US, and even with Japan and Singapore.
