The first time I read Zara Davies Abdul Rahman's letter , I could feel her anger and frustration in wake of the victim's death. There are two people here who deserve a tight slap right on their cheeks, so hard that the marks would remain for the rest of their lives. One is, of course, the pervert in the emergency control centre. The other one is the driver of the car that knocked the victim down.
He caused the accident and eventually the death of an innocent young man. But somehow, his deed was overshadowed by those of that pervert. The car driver obviously had been speeding. The impact of the collision is evident from the seriousness of the victim's injuries.
Any sane person can understand simple physics. The higher the speed, the higher the momentum and hence the greater the impact. Even if he saw the victim before knocking him, he wouldn't have had enough time to step on the brakes. And if he wasn't speeding, he must be half-blind but still driving a car.
This is only one example of the numerous road accidents in the country, many of them fatal. But yet, only trivial matters are addressed by the country's so-called politicians. Civilians, young and old, are all at risk on Malaysian roads.
Speed limits are never heeded. I cannot understand how some people can suggest that accidents are not caused by speeding. They must be the morons we meet on the roads.
Speed traps only appear on the safest roads, safe enough for a bunch of uniform-wearing people to park their vehicles or set up umbrellas to prey on 'selected victims'.
What is becoming of this country? Malaysians are killing Malaysians on the roads. This is worse than a declared civil war.
