Much has been said about Dr Mahathir Mohamad latest attempts at championing world peace. He has been accused of being a hypocrite, a war criminal himself and a clown for going for cheap publicity stunts. Much as I have disagreed with Mahathir, on this front however I do not see anything wrong with what he is trying to do.
It is obviously something that he feels strongly about and instead of ridiculing his efforts, we should just let him get on with it if we support his cause and message. He may have other agendas but at least he is bringing into the open atrocities carried out by the invading armies and attempting to hold Bush and Co accountable for their misguided venture.
The fact that he is not fit to carry the torch as it were is arguable but that should not sidetrack us from the message. Time will tell whether his efforts will gain any traction or be consigned to the waste bins of history.
Meanwhile, give him credit for championing a worthwhile cause if we believe in it regardless of our predisposition towards him. Or else speak up against the inanity of his proposition instead of taking potshots at his character and lack of consistency.
Mahathir is only human and has his faults, but I stand and salute this brave and perhaps foolish man for being true to his convictions and standing up to be counted without fear. That he may get egg on his face is nothing compared to the hardships the people of Iraq are forced to endure.
