The letter writer is probably aware that despite all the kudos he heaped on the former PM about Malaysia's progress with new infrastructure and economic growth, there are also some of the attendant problems that came along:

Environmental degradation: Our beautiful land is slowly being torn apart and our rivers ravaged by our greed. Did the former PM do anything to prevent this from happening?

Infrastructure: How many of the PM cronies have benefitted from their hush-hush deals? Who benefitted the most? Cronyism is a way of life in this country. It is not what you know but who you know in this country.

Crime: Although I don't have the stats to accompany my allegations, we have enough anecdotal evidence of the rise in crime. From purse-snatching to parang-wielding robbers. And have you not read about Hollywood-style shootouts during robbery attempts at goldsmith shops?

Yes, we need to hold our former PM accountable for some of these failings in our rush to modernise.
