First-century Arab Christians used ‘Allah’
A Well-Travelled Christian Mar 6, 07 3:56pm
I refer to Kamarul Jaman's short letter in reply to my earlier letter. He wrote that in Arabic, Allah has a special meaning of being ‘a supernatural being that is not begotten nor begets’ and that hence the Arabic ‘Allah’ cannot be used for the Christian God.

But the Quran itself acknowledges that Arab Christians, even during the Prophet Muhammad's time, referred to God as Allah, for example in Surah 9 Verse 30.

Christians have been calling God ‘Allah’ since the very first Arab Christians of the first century. As I pointed out in my previous letter, no Muslim I personally have met outside of Malaysia denies that Christians worship the same God as Muslims, and that is Allah.
