I refer to the letter Personal faith not an issue before syariah courts .

Actually I only have very little to say about this issue. I look forward for the day when the shariah courts can prove to the world that they are capable of dishing out justice. If they can do that, we do not have to force anyone to submit to their jurisdiction - people will flock to it out of their own choice.

As it stands, women (Muslims) have been denied justice in far too many cases. I am sure every Malaysian knows of at least one divorced Muslim woman whom the shariah courts have failed - be it in ensuring the ex-husband provides proper and timely maintenance for their children or the vetting process for whether an individual is qualified under Islam to take on a second wife.

Some of our friends who were/are married to influential politicians know that their cases are not decided based on Islamic principles but on political influence. How many times have the shariah courts misplaced files of prominent men who are being sued for maintenance by their ex-wives?

If you want non-Muslims to respect the shariah courts, please administer the courts in accordance to Islam as our Prophets would have. Then we will gain respect and not have to demand for it.
