I refer to the malaysiakini report Whistleblower, no faith in police probe . While Malaysian can empathise with his predicament in not getting his pension after working for the best part of his life in government service, I suppose that is the price one has to face for challenging their masters in any disputes.

Being a brave soul in revealing your boss misdeeds is a thankless job. You even risk being sidelined, put in cold storage and be ostracised by your fellow workers who allegiance is totally to their bosses no matter how crooked they are. No wonder people in the higher authorities can practically get away with CBT (criminal breach of trust) or other crimes in this country as their underlings are too frightened to come forward.

Coming back to Mohamad Ramli Abdul Manan's lack of confidence in the police, well, what do we expect? He is right. Records has show when high-profile corruption case involving the higher ups are investigated, the result is usually nothing. Remember the statement by a former minister who said that 18 high profile cases of corruption were being investigated by the ACA? What has happened to their files now?

One silver lining in Ramli's brave action in exposing his boss' alleged misdeeds is that it has forced the present government to address the issues corruption and abuse of power by top government servants. Now, there is the case of a deputy minister who allegedly accepted of RM5 million from underworld figures to release prisoners.

If the government fails to investigate and bring to justice if necessary these two 'big fish', the credibility and integrity of the present regime will be questioned by voters come the next polls. This coming Machap by-elections will be a good barometer for the electorate to judge government performance to date.

Will voters be happy and vote for the MCA candidate if the government grants new funds to improve the drains, roads and other infrastructures as they normally do come a by-election? Or will the voters punish the present government for their incompetence in running the country with endemic corruption becoming worse?

I am not crossing my fingers that the voters will vote for the opposition. Malaysians are a docile lot who normally fall easily for government promises of development. They also think that the government is BN and vice-versa.
