I refer to the many congratulatory letters and the warm wishes that has greeted the urging by the Crown Prince of Perak Raja Nazrin Shah to preserve the sanctity of the federal constitution and the unity of the nation.
While I am as enthusiastic of the many responses in the media both print and electronic, I am quite dismayed to note that only certain section of our society seem to have greeted this urging and are voicing their support. They are mostly from civil society and individuals from minority groups.
It is quite worrying to note that the majority who make up this nation as well as those in positions of authority have not said much or have chosen to reserve their comments.
It is worth noting that for the nation to achieve unity, everyone should chip in and cooperate - not just one section of the society with the other end worrying whether a push for unity is just a backdoor way to erode privileges and rights.
We should not worry about small matters and parochial self-preservation when looking out to protect the nation's well-being for generations to come.
I hope every single individual Malaysian and groups will wholeheartedly take positive steps to enhance unity and preserve our constitution.
