I refer to your report ' MIC want young and dedicated leaders '.

While we are certain that in the coming 61st MIC General Assembly several progressive measures will be put into place to address the interests of Malaysian Indians, I would like to continue to address the many unfounded 'claims and counter claims' of several 'politicians and pseudo politicians' who seem to have come out of their 'political wood works' to make their seasonal statements and appearance prior to and post a by-election!

To a large extend, we have accepted this as a norm in our political circus, however, what I take exception is the attempt by some to suddenly claim to champion the rights and interests of Malaysian Indians!

What more to "politically rubbish" the efforts of those who have indeed contributed to the interest of Malaysian Indians, namely, the tireless efforts of MIC president and Works Minister S Samy Vellu.

This I personally find grossly unfair!

The last time I checked, he was the only one who met and provided for the hundreds of Malaysian Indians with various 'needs and wants' from all walks of life at his home daily as early as 4 in the morning after providing them a hearty breakfast and transport money back!

The last time I visited the Ministry of Works, I cannot but state the same scenes were 'the order of the day' with no one leaving his office empty handed!

The last time I spoke to Indian university students here and abroad, all of them had nothing but praise and gratitude to this same man for assisting them to fulfill their educational desire.

The last time I spoke to several of my friends in the Malaysian cabinet, not one denied that at each and every meeting, the 'plight and needs' of the community are brought forward to the table for discussion in the manner and form of the BN module by none other than the MIC president and Works Minister!

And this was the same man who for decades had fought to better the community's needs and as recently as during the Ijok by-election walked 'himself to the ground' meeting, listening and providing for the needs of all who sought his assistance despite enduring great physical pain.

By his actions and deeds, he puts to shame others much younger then him in the party and others outside who have the audacity to challenge him or yet attempt to discredit him for political gain when they have absolutely done nothing for the community to date or let alone the qualification to hold a candle to the said minister!

It is a fact that as an Indian community, we are enduring several political hurdles and we do not deny them but they are being addressed in a manner only those within the party, the government and the BN coalition will understand.

Whatever problems or needs of the Indian community are being discussed and focused on by the MIC leadership within the BN framework and we are certain in time we will solve them as we have in time past.

But, it is certainly 'unfair and unethical' to attempt to discredit the man who has in his own way fought and made better the plight of Malaysian Indians.
