Reading through the report, I begin to wonder whether our MPs, particularly BN ones, know exactly what their duties are. Certainly not to ask custom officers to 'close one eye' to any wrongdoing nor to amass wealth for themselves and family members. Neither are they elected to pass derogatory remarks on others like how Bung Mokhtar did.

Many a time, television news broadcast show clippings of the proceedings in Parliament. The way those MPs conduct themselves show that the august hall is no better than a circus.

In a circus, the performers are mainly trapeze artistes, stuntmen, clowns and animals like chimpanzees. Trapeze artistes and stuntmen are, without question, very disciplined people. Clowns are paid to do their jobs. That leaves the monkeys and other animals. Surprisingly, this latter group performs in a more orderly manner than many of our MPs. They obey instructions and perform accordingly.

Now coming to our MPs. They are actually elected to look after the welfare of the constituencies. More importantly, they are supposed to legislate and shape the policy of the nation. In short, the rakyat's destiny depend very much on their performance in the Parliament.

But observing their antics in Parliament, many of the MPs are no better than clowns. Such MPs would definitely be more welcome to perform in the circus.
