I refer to the letter Apology demanded from racist minister .
I am an Indian Malaysian currently studying overseas, and it disheartens me deeply that a minister can make such statements in public and in a foriegn country to boot.
Whether he apologises or not, whether he is sacked or not, is now of no consequence because the damage is done. A lot of people, especially from my generation, will be thoroughly disappointed and angered by this incident. And we are not a nation who will readily riot or fight amongst ourselves. No, the worst will happen, which is that there will be mass exodus of this nation's brightest and smartest people leaving to seek greener pastures where we will not have to face this kind of rubbish.
I can already foresee this happening. For me, this incident has cemented my will not to return home after my studies. And I am pretty sure Dr Moorthy and her sister are not heading home any time soon either. And from the talk going around before I left Malaysia, I can be certain more and more will leave.
So what will the great ministers do about the imminent brain drain that the country will face? The best of the current and future generations of the youths are leaving, thanks to the wonderful attitudes and sentiments we get from the people we voted to run our country. Why ask us to vote when you disparage us so?
What makes this sad is for the past generation - who saw the birth of our country and watched it grow with such hopes and dreams - is that the place they harvested as a home for their children is now felt as unwelcome and they would probably feel that they failed us indirectly.
And to top it all off, this is our 50th year of independence. What a wonderful way to celebrate how far we have come (please note the sarcasm).
All I can say to our prime minister and other ministers, is to please send this colossal idiot back to his 'kampung' and same too for others like him. Start focusing on rebuilding the sense of unity among Malaysians because at the current rate, very few will be left behind to realise the dream that was born 50 years ago.
