I refer to the malaysiakini report Rela chief: Give us more power .

Everyone is debating about disbanding Rela but here is this man asking for more power. Can you imagine nearly 500,000 arms-carrying members going around the country, terrorising and extorting and abusing their powers? Remember that the police force is comprised of less than 100,000 members.

According to the Rela boss, their main function is to round up illegal immigrants. In other words, Rela is performing the functions other civil service agencies like the immigration, police force, marine police, Police Field Force etc should have performed but have obviously failed miserably if the number of illegal immigrants is anything to go by.

If Rela also fails in its mission, are we going to set up another body to handle the task the earlier agencies including Rela have failed to deliver on?

Obviously, our government has never heard of nipping a problem in the bud. It does not take a genius to deduce that 500,000 armed men with no training and no discipline can easily become unmanageable. They themselves will become a national security problem. Think about that.

Why not station a few hundred men either from Rela, the police or the immigration etc to check on immigrants at the known entry points. Why wait until an obviously unmanageable situation arises in allowing illegals to enter freely? What's the point of Rela capturing 100 illegal immigrants today when another 200 have entered illegally the same day.

I believe your readers have got the drift. What a government we have elected.
