Ng Tze Yeng's letter, Time to question our own xenophobia , highlighting the hurdles migrant workers face in seeking legal redress is an area that the authorities have to seriously look into.

As Ng has pointed out ,after the trauma of abuse or injury, the hapless worker would have his work permit cancelled and he would have little or no means of support and would have to fork out RM100 a month to renew his special pass pending his case being heard.

I do not see why such a worker cannot be issued with a temporary work permit that would allow him to work until the disposal of his case at a reasonable fee.

The rules as they presently stand only serves to rub salt into the wound of the worker and makes the authorities no different from the abusive employer.
