I refer to Malaysiakini report MPS scraps controversial dog hunt . I am glad that the Selayang Municipal Council has decided to abort this campaign. It would have had a very negative effect nationwide.
I am speaking of my own experience with my pet dog. I came across parties who claimed to be from town council (or appointed by them) to catch the stray dogs in my residential area. I have a dog with a valid licence tag on her neck, in my own house compound.
Despite that, these dog-nappers attempted to enter my house although the gate was locked. They were trying to open my door when my neighbour shouted at them. My dog is a well-kept, pure breed, big Golden Retriever which obviously does not resemble a stray dog.
It is a known issue to the all dog owners in Malaysia that these dog-catchers, who are no better than thieves, have been using this as an excuse to steal owned dogs. The pedigree dogs are then sold at high prices instead of being handed to the town council.
The evidence of this is clear as I have vets who have told me that there were people offering to sell the dogs to them or asking for buyers.
Now that the 'Pertandingan Menangkap Anjing' has been called off, why not organise 'Pertandingan Menangkap Pencuri' instead? After all, they offered RM39,000 for stray dogs.
