So is the tape authentic? Questioning the authenticity of the tape would mean asking if the person on the mobile phone is actually the infamous lawyer, VK Lingam. So far he has not come out to say that it is not him. If it is not him, the person must be a very good actor as no one apart from several cabinet ministers have questioned the identity of the man in the video.

It should not be difficult for the three-member independent panel to verify that it was indeed Lingam. If that is all the panel is asked to do, then a one-page report could be completed very quickly. It's as simple as that.
