Gerakan acting president Koh Tsu Koon says via the Malaysiakini report Racial politics will destroy us that his party will continue to uphold a 'liberal and progressive moderation' approach.
"This is not an easy approach because we are under attack by various quarters. This is the kind of pressures that we face [] Despite the attacks and sometimes, humiliations, we must go on."
But why?
If a wife later discovers that her husband is a violent and abusive criminal, must she go on being in that marriage? Why does Gerakan need to go on attempting the intellectually impossible by crticising racism but supporting and legitimising race-based parties?
Why does Gerakan need to go on biting its tongue when it wants to cry out against the corruption and rot that now pervades every single layer of government?
Why does Gerakan need to go on staying in BN when every single Gerakan member knows within his or her heart that they have become (usually unwilling) accessories to robbery, injustice and plundering of the worst imaginable kind?
I'm grateful that there is at least some impatience with Gerakan's lack of action.
Gerakan Wanita chief Tan Lian Hoe, in a strongly-worded winding-up speech, said merely listening to the grouses from the 'rakyat' will be insufficient as what the people wanted was swift action to be taken.
"Listen, listen, listen but no action taken. The people are actually disappointed, frustrated and angry," said Tan. "It is useless that we only listen but no firm and swift action is being taken."
I only hope that YB Tan will heed her own advice. The first or second time Umno failed to listen to Gerakan and act could have been due to a miscommunication or some other truly pressing reasons.
But if Gerakan is still waiting for Umno to listen to them and act after the 101st piece of advice, the problem is no longer with Umno, but with Gerakan.
And the problem is exactly that - a lack of action. One thing I think every Gerakan supporter knows within his or her heart of hearts is that Malaysians can do better than this Umno/BN filth.
Why must you go on humiliating yourself by consorting with thieves and thugs when you can cut yourselves free and uphold without shame the true ideals Gerakan was bravely formed (outside BN, lest we forget) to defend: unity, integrity and justice.
Malaysia now has a unique opportunity - one that doesn't come every day, and one that won't last forever. It's difficult to expect the race-based parties to abandon their reason for being and the BN model.
But Gerakan/BN members and supporters - now is your chance to be great again. Now is your chance to stand with us and defend Malaysia in its hour of need against the shadows that threaten to drown the country in darkness.
Now is your chance to choose what is right, instead of what is easy.
