I refer to Malaysiakini report, Commercial crime chief: I'm RM 27 mil man . By going public with his disclosure that he was the senior police officer who was investigated for corrupt practices, he has opened a Pandora's box on the internal politics of our police force, which is now split into two camps.
Just like Umno was divided into Team A and B when Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the prime minister, it seems that our police force is divided into two camps - one under inspector-general of police Musa Hassan while some of his men report to Deputy Internal Security Minister Johari Baharum ,who cannot see eye-to-eye with the police chief on how the force should be run.
Ramli Yusuff has made some serious allegations against the police and the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) as well as the attorney-general, which made one wonders if the allegations of ill-gotten gains of the senior officer was made up by higher authorities due to his zeal in nabbing a powerful underworld kingpin who have influence and connections among the top brass in the police force.
One shudder to think that a powerful gangster have such influence in the police force that those who blew the whistle about his misdeeds are not protected by law enforcement officers. Those who want to spill the beans on the wrongdoing of the rich and powerful will now think twice as their personal safety is not assured if they go public.
Coming back to Ramli's claim that all private business transactions done by him are above board and has the blessing of his previous superior, only the court can decide whether he is clean when his case goes to court. Our enforcement agencies seems to be suffering from a decline of public confidence as the ACA, AG's Chambers, police and the judiciary have been hit by serious allegations of graft and abuse of power.
The prime minister and his BN partners have to face the voters in the coming election. With all the scandals which has beset our country, how can he face the electorate as those who have committed wrongdoings and stole public funds are still not made to account for their misdeeds
As for the rest of us, we can only dream of having such a personal fortune when we retire. The Lingam tape has yet to be resolved and now, we have another national scandal.
