It is shocking how the plethora of reports in Malaysian mainstream newspapers are so far from the truth that Malaysians these days only read it to have a good laugh over how creative the editors and group editors of these newspapers are.

In a Malaysia Today article, M Bakri Musa called these editors and journalists "prostitutes", "arms of the state's propaganda machinery" and "chief errand boys and girls." In the same tone, Hindraf lawyer P Uthayakumar called MIC president Samy Vellu a "mandur" on Al Jazeera which was only screened once, leaving viewers to wonder why his interview was never repeated.

As of late, the newspaper reports are not funny. Their propaganda and lies are becoming downright dangerous. They are deliberately inflamming racial anger, pitting one race against another - the way the government does before every election so they can bully Malaysians to toe the line or face racial riots.

In Kua Kia Soong's book May 13 , people can read for themselves evidence of declassified documents from the Public Records Office in London of how the these so-called "riots" were never instigated by the Malaysian public or opposition leaders. Kua writes, "The May 13 1969 racial riots in Malaysia were by no means a spontaneous outburst of racial violence in a multi-ethnic society - these declassified documents clearly show that there was a plan to unleash this racial violence."

He explains it was a coup d'etat directed against Tunku Abdul Rahman.

In this new millennium, it is sickening to find journalists aiding and abetting the spread of these lies. Thank God for the alternative media like Malaysiakini and many Malaysian bloggers who can give the Malaysian public a firsthand report and photos of the Hindraf and Bersih rallies and counter the lying local media's reports.

Take the Nov 26 headline of the New Straits Times "Protesters defy orders to disperse, 240 held." The article quotes Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan commenting "A Molotov cocktail was thrown into a bus which was razed but at no time did we use any force, including water cannon or tear gas, in and around the temple vicinity."

You only need to go to this blog to see photos of tear gas and water cannons being fired directly into the temple grounds from the main entrance of Batu Caves.

And how does one smuggle Molotov cocktails with all the roadblocks, police raids and other high security measures taken? Conveniently, there is no elaboration on who threw these Molotov cocktails.

At another blog you can read about a young girl's experience of true Malaysian spirit when she and her dad joined the Hindraf rally. When their LRT train deliberately passed the Ampang station without stopping, a fellow Malaysian, a Muslim, advised them on how to take another route to the rally. When her eyes and throat were burning from the tear gas, a Muslim family in the Kampung Baru area gave her water to wash her face. In the local newspapers, you also would not have read that Tian Chua and many non-Indians were also there to lend support.

Stories like these are endless and they go way back to May 13 1969 when ordinary Malays and Chinese would hide each other in their own homes to protect them from being attacked. From 1969 until now the ruling elite have done everything in their power to keep Malaysians divided with their racist policies and remarks at general assemblies and newspapers. All these are seditious to the core and yet none of these people have ever receive a jail sentence, let alone a slap on the wrist.

Sadly, you will never hear the truth spoken by true Malaysians in the newspapers. You will never read an interview given by Hindraf leaders P Waythamoorthy, Uthayakumar, N Surendran or any of the others. You will only hear how MIC leaders condemn the event, blah, blah, blah and more rubbish that only want to make Malaysians vomit rather than digest these poisonous lies.

Another classic piece of creative reporting was how the local media called the waving of the keris for the second time at the Umno general assembly this year a "symbol of unity". It happens again while sentiments are still broiling from last year's assembly, when the Umno Youth chief, kissed the Malay dagger and threatened anyone who dared to raise civil rights issues. And this time, editors could not think of anything creative to save the ruling elite so they come up with a "unity" message. Get real. There is only so much stupidity that even the dumbest of people can lap up. After all, people read between the lines and see through the lies.

I want to congratulate Malaysiakini for standing up for truth and justice even during the hardest times when their office was raided during the Mahathir regime. They obviously know what true journalism is and will not compromise this noble calling. We are grateful that Malaysiakini is able to give us the truth in a sea of lies.

In addition to wearing yellow on Saturdays, I call on all Malaysians to boycott the mainstream media by not buying the Star, New Straits Times, Utusan or any local newspaper to send a message that we will not be buying into their lies!
