I am writing with regards to the letter from Mansor Puteh, Class-action suit fatally flawed .

I am disappointed by his understanding of what Hindraf's objectives and motives are. Hindraf, or any other group in a democratic country, should be allowed to march peacefully and should be protected by the government instead of being broken up by force.

To call Hindraf's class-action suit a "show" or "idiocy" just goes to show that Mansor Puteh is shallow in understanding Hindraf's cause. It is a group of people simply voicing their unhappiness about the current state of the Indian community. Instead of listening to them, "sweeping it under the carpet" appears to be our government's usual policy.

Hindraf has been sending memorandums "quietly" to various government ministries and even to the prime minister. They are all falling on deaf ears. If the government is worried about unwanted violence then they should have protected the crowd and let them send the petition to the British government peacefully. We have processions on the Prophet's birthday, Thaipusam and National Day, so why should we assume there would be violence?

We cannot also assume that all Indians are well-to-do and happy just cause a handful is doing well. Compared to the many Malays and Chinese who are doing well, these numbers are insignificant. The government still practices the NEP to protect the interest of the Malays. Malay quota for everything from education, sale of property, government jobs, government contracts and many more. Why should they have these policies when there are many wealthy people in the Malay community?

To say that some Indians and the Hindraf leaders, who are lawyers, have done well for themselves therefore should not put on this "show" is ridiculous. I don't think Mansor Puteh expects the poor Indians to file a suit by themselves if those doing well are not involved. This is like saying our elections cannot be rigged because there have been some opposition wins.

The fact that there is still the NEP and the quota system in Malaysia shows that the government is partial towards a certain race. This has lead to the uneven creation of wealth and opportunities. This is what Hindraf is highlighting, apart from the demolishing of places of worship and schools without the consent and regard for the people. It is unjust and discriminatory.

I have never heard of a mosque anywhere in Malaysia being demolished by the government. Why is that? I know for a fact that a flyover was build in Seremban using millions in taxpayers' money just because a small masjid did not allow the state government to built a road through. This goes to show that the Indian community and their religious practices are not important to the government and has been ignored by MIC and BN leaders.

Instead of calling the peaceful march "illegal" and "violent", the government should immediate assess the root cause and have dialogues with the people, not just the political parties representing them.
