Thank you Nathaniel Tan for your moving and beautiful open letter to P Uthayakumar . I imagine all the Hindraf leaders are probably being pressured by the very establishments that are supposed to be free and fair - the police, judiciary and media, not to mention agent provocateurs.

Yours is the “voice in the wilderness” speaking reason and wisdom as a fellow Malaysian. It must surely be comforting to all the Hindraf leaders. In the same spirit and as a Christian, I would like to call on all the Christian editors of The Star newspaper to stand up for truth and justice. Please desist in spreading lies daily to serve your political masters and lose sight of who you are. Let me remind you of Jesus’ rebuke to nominal Christians in Luke 6:46 “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord’ and do not what I say?”

Of all the newspapers, only of The Star where Christian journalists and editors hold weekly Christian fellowship meetings and an annual Christian conference to show their commitment to Christ. Yet your actions are an abomination to Him. Your daily dose of lies are keeping this country in bondage and ignorance.

John 17:17 states that the word of God which is Jesus Christ made flesh is synonymous with the truth. He calls on God the Father to sanctify his children with the truth. This is how important truth is for a Christian. Missionaries who enter countries where bibles are banned would rather inform immigration authorities that they are carrying bibles and face imprisonment and harsh treatment than lie.

Around the world, journalists give up their lives to expose the truth and you are selling your souls to distort the truth, keeping the Malaysian public in blissful ignorance while their future and their children’s future are being compromised. Malaysians of every race and religion were moved by the scores of Indians and non-Indians at the Hindraf rally bravely facing the chemical shower and choking on tear gas to stand up for truth. They did not retaliate with violence. So how can all you Christian editors of the press lie through your teeth by saying that they committed violence and brought chaos?

As a result of your lies, 31 people are being held without bail to face a trial that has already been prejudiced against them by you, the attorney-general, the police and other spin doctors. The Bersih leaders were arrested yesterday. One of them was arrested at his daughter’s wedding. How can you pick up the Bible and pray when you aid and abet such atrocities every day?

As the time approaches for us to celebrate the birth of our lord Jesus Christ, I hope you will reflect on your actions and refuse to participate in spreading these lies. It does not matter that others will carry on doing it even if you resign. If you profess Jesus Christ as Lord, you should live by his standards and not the standards set by this world.

I hope the faithful in other religions will call on their fellow Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and so forth to stand up for truth and justice.
