  • I refer to the letter Don't muddy waters over 'Allah'.

As intelligent as Fathima Idris appears to be judging from her letters to Malaysiakini, I believe she is rather confused over an important aspect of Islam. She quoted the whole of a chapter of the Quran-al-Karim, i.e., surah Al-Ikhlas.

Why does Fathima expect non-Muslims such as A Well-traveled Christian to believe in the verse, or any verse in our Islamic holy book or hadiths for that matter? Just because 'A Well-traveled Christian' calls the God that he worships 'Allah', it need not mean he has to believe that Allah is how God is as described in the Holy Quran.

If he does, he would be a Muslim, wouldn't he? Of course 'A Well-Traveled Christian's’ concept of Allah would be as how his Bible teaches.

Let him be. Let them be. We are told in a verse two chapters before the chapter Fathima quoted that, ā€˜ ... For you your way of life (religion) and for me my way of life (religion)’.

I do not discount the possibility of mischievous intentions on the part of Christian preachers in Malaysia to cause confusion and indirectly proselytise but for the sake of justice and peace, let's give our Christian brothers and sisters the benefit of the doubt.

    • Don't muddy waters over 'Allah'
    • Justice absent in Subashini decision
    • Only one God, many names
    • 'Allah' term: Minister at fault
    • Herald should stop using 'Allah'
    • Banning of children's books unbecoming
    • 'Allah': Move beyond polemics
    • Learn from Iban Bible controversy
    • They're trying to be mischievous
    • We are fools who fight over religion
    • Who's actually confused over Allah?
