I refer to the letter MIC still the best bet for Indians . I disagree with the writer’s comments on the validity of MIC. It is time for change and people like the writer are resistant to change and new ideas, new governance and a new life.

It’s a mindset that has not been changed for far too long. If BN is not adaptable to change than change them - there’s no two ways about it.

What we need now is a committed opposition or a BN that is willing to have a system that will allow people to dethrone them if they fail to live up to the people’s expectations. Elected representatives need to declare their assets annually so that they would be accountable to the people (MPs, state assemblypersons, ministers, etc).

In education, there should be equal opportunity for all Malaysians based on ability and not on any quota system. Develop new education system that caters for the current times. If you ask what’s wrong with present system which is outdated, then you are a stick in mud for the blocking progress of the nation. Let’s develop new teaching methods to create a knowledge-based community and put our universities up where they should be.

Have an independent Election Commission so that gerrymandering can be avoided. Postal votes are abolished. Why? Because the uniformed guys who I have talked to say their votes are monitored by their superiors thus if they do vote the opposition, they may get the silent treatment and are unable to progress in their careers.

The Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) must be set up as a check and balance. No police force in the world has been clean when they are unchecked and do not take responsibility for their actions. The attitude of our police is not good.

Am independent judiciary is essential and the process must include the fair promotion of all judges so that they can live up to democratic expectations. There should be clearer guidelines for the civil and shariah courts. There is no problem with having Islam as the official religion but it has to be just.

Revamp the NEP to allow it to help all poor people regardless of religion or race. Introduce religious classes for all religions up to the university-level so that our students have strong characters. Allow university students to participate in politics to create new generation of leaders who are fair and mature.

And promotions in civil service should be based on ability and not on race. One of the reasons why our civil service is in a bad shape is because there are too many people at the top who are there because of their race rather than their ability.

In a nutshell - a transparent government that is accountable to the people, by the people for the people.
