I refer to the Malaysiakini letter 'Allah' ban: Christians have given in a lot to gov't .

In his letter, the writer is right about the government's irresponsible actions to limit the word ‘Allah’ to Muslims. Nevertheless, I must stress that there are more important issues at hand than semantics.

Christians should be free to defend their rights, but let's be clear about this - religion should have never been allowed to be discussed in the same breath as governing the country. Those two are incompatible, period.

It is sanctimonious that the writer regards religion as being down-to-earth and moderating. History has shown us that it is neither and as in the past, it stirs dangerous passions that people waste so much time and energy on.

Islamisation or not, however, I agree with the writer that there is a blatant disregard of citizens' rights by the current administration. As I said before, this episode of the word ‘Allah’ with the Christians is an example of it.

We can only be rid of this problem if we stand together as Malaysians with the ideals of unity, tolerance, mutual respect and love for the country. Race and religion must be secondary to national unity.

Those things do not matter if you do not have a country to be in. So worry about the state your country's in first, then worry about race and religion later.
