I am a middle-aged Malaysian male of Chinese Malaysian parentage. I have been thinking of how I can write and express my thoughts to our prime minister. I am troubled by what I have seen in the last four years. I have gone from being a staunch believer in our prime minister's promises to believing that even if he had told the truth and believed that he has kept his promises, then something must be really terribly wrong with the people who claim to follow his orders.
I am Malaysian, I love Malaysia and I am not and try not to be a racist. I really don't care weather a Malaysian is a Malay, Chinese, Indian, Sikh, Kadazan, Iban or any other name we call people who are different from us, I love all Malaysians. So if I could ‘talk’ to the prime minister without fear for my life or my family's safety, this is what I would say to him.
‘Dear Prime Minister,
I was eligible to vote more than two decades ago but only did so in 2004 when you came to power and for the first time, I actually liked and believed a politician since Tunku Abdul Rahman. I believed what you said then, I defended what you said then and I waited to see you keep your promises to me as a Malaysian.
In the last four years or so, I have seen things go bad. I have seen government projects waste the taxpayer's money. I have seen ministers acting like hooligans and gangsters and threatening the very people they claim to protect. I have seen little Napoleons's in little towns like Klang getting away with terrible crimes. Worse, I have seen the powers-that-be protect people like that. I heard of foreigners being blown up in our own backyard and justice is not swift nor fair (in my humble opinion).
I have seen the dominant race and party take over with impunity whatever they think is their right. I have seen Malaysians who cry out being attacked by the police. I have heard of young children kidnaped and murdered. I have seen lawbreakers like Mat Rempits beat up anybody, even the police and get the support of politicians. I have seen the sanctity of Parliament broken and the courts have become a joke or even more tragic, a pawn of people whom I perceive don't love Malaysia. I have seen violent crimes like robbery and rape go out of control.
I have seen the slow but sure breakdown of respect for the law among normal citizen's like at the traffic lights. Littering, defacing of public property...there is so much more, but I have a headache just thinking about them. I think you would get the picture by now.
I am Malaysian and I love Malaysia. I pray to God or to who you call ‘Allah’ for help this March 8 tand beyond for our blessed country. That God will have mercy on Malaysians (I know I am being very selfish when I see the turmoil in the world around me) and protect us all from those who want to harm us from within our country.
I ask of you, if you possibly can, to let it the polls be truly a fair election and let the people truly decide at the ballot box and that we all accept the results humbly. After that, let us improve from the last four years. We as a country so blessed should be doing better than what we are today. We owe it to ourselves and the future of all Malaysians.
I ask for forgiveness from any Malaysian who takes offence to what I have said and if I have said anything wrong but this is my humble opinion. I ask that we vote to safeguard Malaysians.
