I refer to th Malaysiakini report ACA: Mahathir's case is with police.

The public gained extremely useful access to the modus operandi of our Anti-Corruption Agency during the proceedings of the royal commission of inquiry involving the Lingam Tape scandal.

Former UN special rapporteur Param Cumaraswamy says there was ‘sufficient evidence’ to show that Dr Mahathir Mohamad had interfered with the ACA based on testimony during Anwar Ibrahim's corruption trial eight years ago. Being a lawyer and a reputable one at that I am sure he knows what he saying, so here is a case of the ACA being muscled.

We have had countless investigations involving people in high places implicated in criminal acts, in murder, men getting killed whilst in police custody and countless so-called ‘investigations’ by the ACA and the police after which our Attorney-General decides that the case should not go to court for whatever reasons he deems fit.

He is the sole authority in deciding such as seems, and it is usually either a case of ‘insufficient evidence’ according to him or that the person had been ‘cleared of any wrongdoing’.

It is time we consider a royal commission with powers to sentence and enforce be set up to investigate all these cases. The confidence of the people in the police, the ACA, the Attorney-General's Chambers and the courts has been shattered by the Lingam Tape case.

This is the reason why a royal commission made up of persons of impeccable character is warranted. It may be - and I will not be surprised - if these sort of people are no longer available on Malaysian soil anymore judging from the corruption that has permeated our society. As such, it may be necessary to get such people from outside the realms of our nation.

A royal commission appointed by our King in consultation with rulers of the states will be the only thing that will suffice in my opinion. The government is an interested party, so too are ex- government ministers, judges, and even former attorneys-general. No man whose previous behaviour and record is even slightly questionable should sit on such a commission.

The commission should be called upon quickly so that all elected representatives and all government servants realise that they can be held accountable for their actions. It is also necessary so that good men who could have suffered at the hands of scoundrels can have the right to have their names cleared before they die. Many already have without being cleared.
