I refer to the Malaysiakini report Wee denies sex scandal .

This headline struck an embarrassing blow adding o the never-ending shame, degradation and humiliation suffered by MCA since the political tsunami on March 8.

With the national party polls looming in the horizon, the floodgates have been torn apart for the scrambling of positions at the top.

Leaders should represent our hopes. Leaders must be better people in some vital respect. If the candidates are going to be in a position to help others get what they want in life, they must have honour and integrity in their own lives.

It is no good if a leader claims that he has given so much to so many yet who is, nonetheless - reputation and accumulated wealth aside - less successful himself, for his family and those closest to him.

Some things in life are absolutely right and some things are absolutely wrong. There is black and white in life.

Our society today is buying into the idea that there are no universal truths, that what is right for me may not be right for you.

That may be true when it comes to picking the colour of the shirt we’re going to wear or the colour of the tie we’re going to buy, but its not true when it comes to honesty and integrity.

There are some things - like faithfulness - that are black and white issues.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said that ‘ability without honour has no value’. This gives us reason to pause to think, especially before we vote in October for the leaders to lead MCA.

May I suggest we consider ‘that what lies behind them and what lies before them are tiny matters compared to what lies within them’.

They are our future. Seek out those with honesty and integrity to set a new direction for our MCA, for our Chinese community and for our nation.

Let them champion the voice and aspirations of the Chinese community and let them have a strong and influential voice in the corridors of power.

Discard those who do not possess honesty and integrity. MCA, evolve or perish.
