Police communications: No reason for Israelis to do it

I refer to recent media reports that the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) is investigating how a little-known Malaysian IT company is undertaking a RM1 billion project to upgrade the Royal Malaysian Police's communication systems with the involvement of Israeli nationals, some of them former officers of the Israeli Air Force.

Using Israel expertise is tantamount to declaring that Malaysia agrees with Israel’s philosophy of violence.

The world has enough talent, knowledge and determination to ensure there is no monopoly on technological advantages. Why then should we compromises our national security by engaging with the Israelis?

It is not just a question of disobeying government orders and policies but also the manner in which these contracts were awarded.

This is opening and subjecting Malaysia political economical and defence institutions to foreigners who will not even sweat when swapping our country's most intimate security and safety details to third parties.

Our politicians have grown so greedy whereby they actually take the nation’s short and long-term security for granted - this grave oversight is tantamount to the grandest of blunders.

It begs to reason then why some parties would want to claim Anwar Ibrahim is an American agent. The Home Affairs Minister Syed Hamid Albar has ven gone so far as to claim that Anwar is a ‘snitch’ for the US.

Just look at the logic in their treatment of Anwar with their allegations while under their very noses, Singaporeans and Israelis both continuously encroach upon our real and virtual boundaries by way of being awarded expensive and sensitive national security contracts right in our very domain.

The very personnel involved from the other side are high-grade military experts trained in intelligence techniques - which is what landed them with these contracts in the first place.

They do not need a public-listed company to penetrate our security institutions but only well- placed high-calibre intelligence officers posing as businessmen offering quality intel/service in exchange for RM.1.5 billion and our nation’s security operations and privileges.

Malaysia can't and should not be pretentious over the fact that the ACA alone isn't enough to probe this serious blunder. I can't find enough words or the right phrase to describe this scandalous ineptitude.

These ‘folks’ were let into our home, right into our bedroom in the dead of night - which means that they will have access to every security aspect of Malaysia.

Can I spell the consequences out more plainly? If this had happened in any other state in the world, rest assured heads will be rolling and it will not just be deputies or associates but the top guns themselves with jail to boot.

I beg anyone to dare challenge me on the nature of the risks involved. Who are the losers in this blatant disregard for national security over money, yes money, because that is what this all boils down to, God forbid.

The Malaysian government is treating its own fabrication of the Anwar Ibrahim allegations as a far greater a threat than this serious breach of national security.

Be very afraid as this isn't about politics. This transcends to the question of sovereignty more than anything else in our nation’s history. Have we not learnt from the happenings prior to the Japanese invasion of Malaysia, how our security was compromised?

This is by far a greater threat and the ‘fruit’ of eroded values, a virtual lack of professionalism, and a lack of experienced personnel overseeing the nation's security.
