I am quite disappointed that the highly proclaimed announcement for a change on Sept 16 did not occur. A number of people would also feel the same, having anticipated with great hope, a new political era built on fairness, wisdom and clean governance.
I am not sure of the ploy or reason behind the need to broadcast this date in advance but it has had implications as it was not fulfilled. Anwar Ibrahim has lost a bit of credibility in the process of not keeping to his word.
I think it would have been better if no date was publicised and then Anwar springing a big surprise when he is ready to assume office with the required number of MPs to make up the majority.
Now, the only alternative is to the reveal the names of those who are willing to join forces with Pakatan Rakyat to form the new government and restore full faith in Anwar. This move will certainly help to safe face and put the mission back on track.
By having failed to live up to his promise, Anwar is being ridiculed by the BN government as an imposter to the throne, a rumour monger and consequently, is being called a threat to national security.
It will be very unfortunate if after coming this far, the whole dream and vision he has struggled to build and which has given so much hope to the people, comes to an abrupt end.
Accepted, it is not an easy task to remove BN from power. But Anwar, oozing with confidence, made it look so easy and targetted a very auspicious day in Malaysian history as the victory day. Our expectations have more or less been shattered ,even though Anwar may have good reasons to delay this take-over.
The stakes are high and the veterans are holding on to power. They are doing everything in their power to impede the exodus of government MPs. Additionally, they are fortifying their defences, especially after Sept 16 came and went without a whimper.
The next move Anwar makes, will be very vital for his survival as the leader of Pakatan. Though shaken and set back a bit, the people are still behind his relentless effort to make a change of government a reality.
Anwar, the ball is in your court.
