Given the government's displeasure with the independent and just manner Suhakam commissioners are performing their duties I think it behooves of more loyal Malaysians to make known their support of the magnificent work they are doing.
I think I'm not the only one among Malaysians who have a cynical view of what Suhakam will do when the government initiated its setting up.
I'm glad that I have not only been proven wrong, but it is a fact that Suhakam has given loyal and just-minded Malaysians a glimmer of hope that, despite the massive erosion of personal liberties in our democratic system as the government of the day struggles to contain public discontent with its many wrongdoings by enforcing more police-state-like policies, civil liberties will still need to be respected and the police cannot do as they please in the name of public order.
I wish to emphasise the point that despite my discontent with the way our government is running our country, I am a loyal Malaysian. However, loyalty to my country does not mean I have to swallow whole all that the government of the day is doing.
