Petrol price reductions: Don't con the rakyat

I refer to the Malaysiakini report Fuel prices down by 15 sen.

It is again a time to reflect on government hypocrisy. This time it comes down to the price of petrol at the pumps.

Don't we all remember when the government was justified the increase of 41% up to RM2.70 per liter? Oil prices per barrel then US$130. Furthermore, we were told that our pump price was with a 30 sen per liter subsidy.

The last I checked, crude oil was trading at under US$60 per barrel. A simple maths calculation will indicate that today, in Malaysia, the pump price should be halved to RM1.50 per litre, excluding the government's ‘generosity’ of a 30 sen per liter subsidy.

So where is the justification for pump prices this time around? The government now changes its tone to one of ‘You should be thankful for a reduction in pump prices’!. The government is trying to fool the rakyat again.

Come on. Justify why pump prices shouldn’t now be at RM1.50 per litre. Instead, we only get a reduction of 15 sen to RM2 per litre. So, inclusive of the government's ‘kind’ subsidy, the actual price is RM2.30 per liter. I certainly have a nagging feeling the government is trying to cheat the rakyat over and over again.

So, can some minister work out the maths for me? Did I miss some important facts or numbers?

So, BN, please quit cheating the rakyat . When BN decided to up the pump prices in Malaysia, everything else went up. Now that pump prices have come down, I don't see the prices of everything else coming down by the same rate.

What angered me the most was one particular Shell petrol station operator sandwiched between the Butterwoth-Kulim Expressway and Jalan Jelawat (in Seberang Perai, near Sunway Carnival) which tried to cheat the rakyat even more.

When the prices of petrol came down, it came down on the dot at midnight. This station I went to did not lower its prices at midnight as it was supposed to. What the heck? Now I cannot even make a complaint.

There's no number I can call to report or a website where I can lodge a complaint. So will the government, especially the government of Penang, please set up a complaint site or a number through which we, the rakyat can report abuses involving rogue petrol stations.

So now, should I be thankful to the government for the ptrol price reductions? Not a chance.

Not a chance when this BN government messed up in a big, irreversible way. Don't con us, the rakyat .
