The US should take necessary steps on how to curb international terrorism rather than take revenge. The government should seriously review the political sanctions, as well as take heed of the anti-terrorism treaties.

The time has come now for the US to learn about indifference and the virtue of tolerance. They have been indifferent to the sufferings of the ordinary people in the Middle East and yet expect empathy from them? Now that the US has had a taste of her own medicine, can she relate her sorrow to that of the countries affected by her sanctions, to the innocent folk who have been killed unjustifiably?

Can this superpower nation accept what has been done, rectify what needs to be corrected and not pour fuel into the fire? Will there be war? Is there a need for another war? Hasn't the human race learnt from the mistakes of their predecessors? Why do innocent people need to be killed in the name of 'justice'? Who are we to take childhood away, let alone life?

I condemn the attacks on the US but at the same time denounce any military retaliation. The attacks were despicable and terrorism is heinous. No doubt those responsible should be brought to justice. That is the basic rule of law. No nation should succumb to violence but violence in return is not the answer. It only means doom.

Everyone wants a peaceful world more than anything else. And it is our right to persevere for peace! The decision today is left to President George W Bush and the people of the US. I may live far away geographically but nonetheless I feel America's sorrow, anxiety and frustration. However, I do not wish to see further damage.

I implore on behalf of my nation and others that the ultimate decision be wise for it affects not only the people of the US but worldwide, not only the children of today but tomorrow as well. The decision made must hold moral value that will be remembered and practised by the young for years to come.

Let the decision be of great pride to a great nation. Let there be love and forgiveness in our heart as every religion preaches. Let harmony and peace reign.
