I refer to the Malaysiakini report Hindraf supporters throng temples for Nov 25 anniversary .
Though it’s already a year since the Indian Malaysians portrayed their 50 over years of grievances, yet no significant measures have been taken to resolve or for that matter address our issues.
The current prime minister himself had promised to look into it and also to meet the leaders of Makkal Shakti . This promise, too, has gone up into thin air. Adding salt to the wound, the government has instead banned Hindraf. The government should resolve this situation and as promised, the prime minister must meet the representatives of Makkal Shakti .
The home minister should also stop his political game of continuously issuing threatening statements. Where else is the avenue for the public to meet the prime minister apart form the latter’s open house? As such, what is the flaw on the part of the Indians to visited him only to express their deeply embedded pain?
Banning Hindraf, the only platform that is available to us to voice out our demands for social justice, has pushed us to feel that the sensitivities of the Indian community as a whole have been brushed aside.
More than this, of late, some of those who were arrested under the ISA were spontaneously released shortly after they were arrested. The question to be debated upon is that why till to date the five Hindraf leaders have not been released as yet? Why the discrimination?
On the other hand, it is a known fact that Hindraf’s revolution was a turning point in the 50 years of our political history. This, in turn, brought about a watershed change in the 50 years of one- party rule and five states went into the hands of the opposition. Yet, the Indian Community is still deprived or, for that matter, denied their rightful access to even many of their day-to-day survival needs.
It was the after-events of the Nov 25 revolution of the Indians and particularly the sacrifices of the five Hindraf leaders that had placed the opposition in Parliament. When they can stage a ‘walk out’ in Parliament just for obe individual, why have they not done so for the sake of the five Hindraf ISA detainees or for that matter even when Hindraf was banned?
Why is it that none of the politicians, the political parties or the state or federal government is not willing ready to address the 18 points that have been put forth on behalf of the Indian community? Instead of this, they are just throwing around crumbs, trying to appease the Indian community just for political mileage.
It is the duty of all the so-called leaders from both of the ruling and opposition parties to fulfill their promises and eradicate the frustrations of the Indian Community. It is time they enhance their actions to cater for this. All we need is our social justice.
The Indian community wants their 18 points to be given priority and doors to be opened to discuss these needs.
Since this entire unhealthy atmosphere took place during the office of the current prime minister we feel it is his utmost duty to resolve all these matters before the takes leave of his office.
The after-effects of all that which took place within the last one year has actually been a reason why the Indian society is further fractured into many groups and more than that, have made us to become more political-party oriented.
Our division is, therefore, also one of the reasons for Hindraf to be banned.
It is high time we shed all our other allegiances, especially our political ones, and unite as one Shakti – Makkal Shakti - through which we should put forth our 18 points. Let us forget all our differences and come under one umbrella for the sake of our future generations.
This is the dire need of the hour. Let us acknowledge this fact and act accordingly.
