I refer to the Malaysiakini report Win boosts Pakatan's ambition

Saturday’s Kuala Terengganu by-electiion which was won by the opposition Pakatan Rakyat symbolises the beginning of the end of Terangganu under BN rule.

Another Umno stronghold has fallen to PR. A visible sign that the rakyat are really looking for a change. Gone are the days when the people could be easily hoodwinked by ang pow and the lure of ‘carrots’ such as promises of new infrastructure developments.

PR should take this show of support for its coalition seriously and work together to achieve the ultimate goal.

Bickering and infighting should be kept under control and elected representatives of PR should be mature enough not to jeopardise the coalition's strength by making demands and accusations or imposing their own will in contrary to Pakatan principles and solidarity.

Internal disputes are bound to occur as people have different ideas and how to implement them. However, in the interest of Pakatan unity, there has to be a degree of compromise though it may not serve some of your own personal objectives.

The PR wakil rakyat cannot expect too many things too soon as there is a process to be worked out over time taking into consideration the various communities’ needs and expectations. It cannot be done overnight and the virtue is patience.

Issuing threats of a boycott and leaving the party only show how childish the person is and such a person does not make a good leader and is unworthy to represent the people. Leave if you have failed to do your duty properly or cannot bear the responsibility. Consider yourself very lucky to have been elected and thus do justice to your position. Stop complaining if you want to stay on.

Look at one of BN's component parties - singing the same tune of marginalisation, discrimination etc, etc, over and over again but able to send 150 delegates to a foreign gathering which is of no significance or value to the local community.

The money spent on this wasteful and extravagant 'vacation' could have been put to better use in helping the needy and poor within the community. People want to get rid of such a blatant abuse of power and authority that has plagued the nation for far too long.

Don't make the same mistakes just to reward your supporters or to cling on to power at the expense of the people or misusing the allocations given to you. There has to be accountability to maintain the trust placed in you.

Some loss of confidence in PR will definitely be restored with this big and important victory over BN whose support is seen to be eroding slowly but surely. If BN continues to further alienate itself from the rakyat by its repressive actions, then it is a great advantage to PR.

BN will then be handing victory to PR on a silver platter. The loss of KT by the ruling party is a clear example.

It becomes very crucial for PR to work closely within its coalition to convince the public that it is fair, just and works for the interest and welfare of all. If any deviation is seen, it could turn the tables against them.

The people have become more alert and are very concerned for the future of this nation more than ever before. They want a change for the better for everyone and not an ‘out of the frying pan and into the fire’ kind of situation.

Pakatan Rakyat, you still have a big task to prove that you are genuine. We are keen to know your electoral manifesto in due time.
