I refer to the report Poll shows public will reject adulterous politicians .

In response to the Merdeka Centre of Opinion Research survey results that was released yesterday, my view is that the research was not done intensively enough and is unable to represent the population of Malaysia.

Out of a 26 million population in Malaysia, only 1,018 responded to the survey and with +3.10 percent of error, what representation and conclusion could it make?

Of the 1018 respondents, 63 percent of them had no Internet access. Without Internet access, it would have meant that they do not have access to media other than the mainstream media. What if mainstream media itself is not playing fair and not reporting the facts?

I worry that the survey itself has been manipulated to suit to 'some people's’ taste.

One very obvious biased question was: ‘How strongly can you accept or not accept a leader who is tainted by a sex scandal to hold a senior government post?’ where 72% of them said they cannot accept a tainted leader.

It has to be with such a coincidence that The Star newspaper played up this question instead of the question of ‘How strongly can you accept or not accept a leader who is corrupted’ where 98% of the respondents said they cannot accept leaders who is corrupted. Why not play up this question instead?

It is unfair for the readers who do not know exactly the basis of the research and the hypothesis it is trying to make. Readers have the right to know what is going on. With the 63% of respondents without Internet access, they would not know that apart from tainted leaders, there are more people objecting to corrupted leaders as well.

They would have believed that what is reported in mainstream media is true when the real truth itself is not revealed.

Another interesting thing that I wish to highlight here is that the survey took place during the Kuala Terengganu by-election time.

Instead of asking the public's perception of Umno, they asked about public's perception of MCA when the Kuala Terengganu's constituency belongs to Umno.

My suggestion to The Star is play right and play fair. The media has its own role to play and freedom of information should be the utmost objective.

As for the Merdeka Centre of Opinion Research, their research has to be more in-depth and concrete in terms of the variety of questions. They have to reach out to all audiences.
