your say The results of yesterday's by-elections in Peninsular Malaysia are significant. The people showed the powers-that-be how their repression would be repaid by victory for the opposition'.

On Pakatan takes 2 'bukits', BN wins Batang Ai

Paneir: The results of the by-elections in Pennisular Malaysia are very much significant for the future of our beloved Malaysia.

At the end of the day, the people showed the powers-that-be how their repression would be repaid by victory for the opposition.

It's a remarkable event in our country's history and the shift of power from BN to PR is unavoidable.

I believe the 13 th general election will signify what I had predicted today based on the results of today's by-elections.

Let us Malaysians wake up. E Wallerstein had said that every superpower will rise and fall. This is the indication that all Malaysians have waited for for so long. God will save Malaysia.

Kenny Gan:

Both Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau are big victories for PR as both seats were formerly BN strongholds and they faced the might of the BN machinery in focused by-elections.

These victories were achieved in spite of the partisan EC putting polling day on a working day to depress the turnout of young working voters who are mainly pro-opposition.

It looks like BN is now unable to win any election in the Peninsula. Even safe seats have turned into grey seats which they still lost after fighting tooth-and-nail.

The upheaval in the political landscape is because BN no longer commands the non-Malay vote as Malay vote has always been split.

Ironically it's the support of the races they oppressed which has kept BN in power for so long.

If BN doesn't woo back the non-Malay vote, it will be wiped out next general elections, that much is clear.

To win back the non-Malay vote is not the job of MCA, MIC or Gerakan, it is the job of Umno.

The government must undertake real reforms at the national level to ensure a fairer distribution of resources to all races and not just pay lip service to equality.

To attempt to claw back electoral support by playing the old racial politics will ensure the loss of BN's federal power in the next general elections.

Tun's Fan: BN was defeated because of the rakyat not happy with Najib's appointment as PM. He failed to get peoples' trust.

The rakyat rejected him just a few days after he was appointed as PM.

I request Mahathir and Muhyiddin Yassin to ‘attack' Najib and plan for a power transition immediately as what they had done to Pak Lah

Vivian Lim: I wish to say this to the Bukit Gantang voters who voted for Pakatan: ‘Thanks, thanks, thanks from the bottom of my heart!'

Thanks for giving an almighty sock on the jaw to Najib Razak, Umno and BN for me.

Thanks for teaching them it does not pay to be thugs. Thank God there is justice after all!

Frankly Xroy: Consider the following, BN used scantily-dressed girls to draw people to their campaigns; they used food to entice people to their campaigns; then they brought a parrot to predict the outcomes.

Their tactics tell us about how desperate they have become. At one time one of the BN leaders said we should deliver all three constituencies to BN as a gift to Najib and when the truth began to set in. they changed the tune.

They called on Mahathir Mohammed to come to Bukit Gantang. The people who heard him were sick of him that they voted PKR.

The people of Perak and the people of Kedah - two of the states who last March kicked out Umno and the Barisan - have said it again, get out.

Surely this lends legitimacy to the call that the Perak assembly must be dissolved and fresh elections must be called.

GH Kok: Pakatan triumphs again! I would like to salute the people of Pakatan and the courageous people of Bukit Selambau and Bukit Gantang for sending a clear message to BN that we still want change.

This is a win for the people of Malaysia. This is a win despite all the machinery, corruption and unfairness of BN and a win in spite of polling day being a working day.

A win in spite of BN misusing and abusing public facilities, exploiting billboards, newspapers, TV, radio, etc.

BN was hoping to reduce the number of young voters turning up for voting. That probably did happen - I'm convinced that the results in all three seats are not accurate.

In fact, I'm very sure that if the by-elections were held on a weekend, Pakatan's majority would have been much higher in Bukit Selambau and Bukit Gantang.

The challenge now is to work harder to free the minds of the people of Sarawak from the bondage to BN. Logistical hurdles need to be overcome.

The organisation needs to be stronger. It's not impossible. Change we can!

Richard Teo: The message from the two by-elections, Bukit Selambau and Bukit Gantang is very clear. The people want a change and they now view BN as beyond redemption.

BN's last throw of the dice in bringing the ‘date expired' Mahathir was of little help. The last thing the people wanted was more of the Mahathirism.

The new PM's touted reform of releasing the 13 ISA detainees , his well-publicised ‘walk-about' in the city did not swing any last minute votes in the two constituencies.

The result of the two by-elections, especially at Bukit Gantang, provided an indication to the PM that they were not happy with his illegal takeover of the popular Perak government under Pakatan Rakyat.

And if he is listening he should now allow the dissolution of the Perak assembly and call for a fresh election to allow for a new mandate to be determined by the people of Perak.

His failure to do this would cause irreparable harm to his current administration and adversely affect his reputation as the new PM.

Admittedly, a mistake was made in the initial takeover of the state but a bigger mistake would be to allow the current situation to deteriorate further without a final solution.

It takes a good statesman to realise one's mistake and rectify it with the correct decision.

After all the new PM still has four more years to win back the people of Perak should the people decide to retain the Pakatan Rakyat government in a fresh election.

Malaysian Malaysia: My conclusions of the tri-election results:

Najib needs to give more cabinet minister positions to Sabah and Sarawak MPs, possibly a DPM's post also.

Najib needs to clear in court his involvement in the-woman's-name-cannot-be-mentioned case.

Pak Lah or Najib, it does not really make any difference.

Dr M ‘old newspaper' story did not sell

Pakatan Rakyat now really needs to show tangible outcomes in order to maintain the momentum in future elections.

Thus far, Selangor is going well, Penang somewhat moderate, but Kedah is still lagging.

You guys need to really need to cooperate more to achieve something great.

In fact, at Bukit Selambau election, the Kedah government couldn't show anything except talk about the cleanliness the MB. This may not work the next time.

Najib, your ISA release, and unbanning Harakah and Suara Keadilan ban did not work.

Najib, if you respect the rakyat, dissolve the Perak assembly now. By the way, I know you will not.
