The total number of deaths from the influenza A(H1N1) virus in the country now stands at 62 with three new cases reported today.

The latest three cases involved two children - aged three and six respectively, and a 50-year-old man.

Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai, in revealing the latest statistics today, said that there were delays in administering the three latest death patients with viral treatment.

"The ministry will now probe the reasons behind the delay," he said.

It was also revealed that the six-year-old child had Down's Syndrome and a hole in the heart.

Liow said the child died on Thursday and had been admitted on Aug 9 after suffering for two days of H1N1 symptoms.

He said the three-year-old child meanwhile succumbed to H1N1 complications after being admitted on Aug 1 for fever and cough and suffering breathing difficulties for five days.

"The child died on Friday due to severe pneumonia," he said.

The minister said that 50-year-old man died on Friday after he was warded on Aug 3 due to fever, diarrhoea, vomiting and breathing difficulty.

The total number of cases also climbed to 3,857 with 283 new cases reported, he added.

At present 33 patients remained in intensive care units across the nation while 213 were hospitalised in normal wards.

Liow also urged the people to remain vigilant and protect themselves against the flu.

He warned that those with the flu can be fined up to RM10,000 or jailed up to two years if they did not practice self-quarantine.
