Barisan Nasional's campaign in Permatang Pasir, which is already marred by the attack on the reputation of its candidate Rohaizat Othman, faces yet another allegation, this time involving an unresolved land deal and the ex-lawyer.

He said that he was informed of the matter and given the documents relating to the purchase by one of the 16 buyers, who is also a voter in Permatang Pasir.

Mahfuz said that Rohaizat had received a 10 percent down payment of RM 1,737 as deposit to purchase the land worth RM17, 376.

"In total there are 16 buyers for the 2,896 square feet land which maybe be divided into 2.14 hectares," said Mahfuz.

However, the buyers, who paid the deposit, have yet to receive any information on the status of their purchase, said Mahfuz.

"Although it is small, compared to the RM161,000, the question is whether the 16 buyers are still clueless about the land they had purportedly bought," said Mahfuz.

The BN campaign has been plagued with questions of integrity after Rohaizat's disbarment as a lawyer was revealed after he was found guilty of misconduct for failing to return RM161,000 belonging to a client .

‘Rohaizat must explain it to the buyers'

Despite pressure from the opposition to withdraw from the by-election, BN leaders have maintained that Rohaizat is the best choice for the people of Permatang Pasir and that it was his law firm partner Yusri Isahak's mistake that led to Rohaizat's disbarment.

bn banners permatang pasir 220809 However, Yusri denied the allegations and revealed that Rohaizat had used the money from the cooperative to help a friend over a land deal.

"Rohaizat is no longer a practicing lawyer, how is he going to settle the deal? The buyer came to us and she wants an answer" asked Mahfuz.

"I don't dare to say that he cheated but I appeal to him to give an explanation because the buyer is clueless," said Mahfuz.

Rohaizat, 38, faces PAS state commissioner Mohd Salleh Man, 55, in a straight fight in the Permatang Pasir by-election in Penang, held following the death of Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman.
