Prince: Cops sitting idle on royal bashing

The grandson of the late Negeri Sembilan Yang Di Pertuan Besar who was allegedly assaulted by a member of the Johor royal household and his bodyguards at a posh hotel last year, wants the assailants nabbed.
Tunku Nadzimuddin Mudzaffar (right) , the grandson of the late Tuanku Jaafar, and son of his eldest daughter Tunku Dara Naquiah, said the matter had been forwarded to the Attorney-General in December, but there has been no developments since.
Addressing the media on the issue for the first time in Kuala Lumpur today, Nadzimuddin named the alleged assailant as Tunku Ismail Ibrahim, the grandson of the Johor Sultan.
At gun point
He claimed that Ismail had pointed a gun at him and hit him on the face repeatedly with the weapon, leaving him with a broken nose.
Though it had been 11 months since the incident, Nadzimuddin lamented that there was a "serious lack of affirmative action" by the authorities.
He said the police had given an assurance that the probe would be carried out without fear or favour. He was further assured that no one was above the law and the assailants would be produced in court to face charges.
"However, today I am left bewildered and shocked to learn otherwise," said Nadzimuddin, who was accompanied by his mother Dara Naquiah during the press conference.
Hit with whiskey bottle
Nadzimuddin said his first run-in with Ismail was during the early hours of Oct 25 last year when he was dining with some friends at the Heritage Mansion night club in Kuala Lumpur.
Suddenly a whiskey bottle came flying and hit the head of a member at his table, lawyer Shamshuddhuha Ishak. The missile was allegedly thrown by one of Ismail's bodyguards.
A little later, Nadzimuddin said he received a call from one of Ismail's minders inviting him and Shamshudhuha to Crowne Plaza Hotel in Jalan Sultan Ismail.
"Me and my friends were invited to the Crowne Plaza because the Raja Muda wanted to apologise," said Nadzimuddin, adding that it should have been safe to meet at the busy hotel lobby.
However, upon arrival, a scuffle broke out and both the prince and the lawyer were allegedly dragged into a lift and assaulted.
Nadzimuddin claims that Ismail pointed a gun at him and confined him to a room, along with four bodyguards on the 25th floor.
‘Friend knocked unconscious'
To a question, Nadzimuddin said he did not ask Ismail (

) why he was being assaulted
"I kept quiet while he was giving instructions to his bodyguards. (He was) with a gun... you know..." he said, leaving his sentence hanging.
After Nadzimuddin was dragged into a lift, his wife and then fiancee Nur Azini Kamaz ( photo below ) who was present at both occasions called Dara Naquiah for help and she arrived at the scene later with her youngest brother Tunku Petera Nadzaruddin.
After hotel staff failed to reveal where Nadzimuddin was being held, Dara Naquiah received a text message from her son on his whereabouts and proceeded to the 25th floor, only to be confronted by Ismail's bodyguards.
"They threatened me, asking me who I was. Then I threatened them, telling them who I was and I said you better open the door because my son is in there or else I will report you. So they opened the door for me," she said.
At the time, Nadzimuddin was bleeding from the broken nose while Shamshuddhuha was lying unconscious.
Nadzimuddin denied that he had provoked Ismail at the night club nor had they met before.
May file suit
Dara Naquiah said they have waited a year before going public in hope that the police would take the appropriate action.
She confirmed that Ismail's parents had called her to apologise over the incident.
"They called me to apologise, but not in so many ways. They just said: ‘I'm sorry my son did this to your son'," said Dara Naquiah.
She also denied rumours that she had demanded RM100 million from the Johor royal house as compensation.
"I said (to the Johor royals) my son is priceless. Even RM100 million would not suffice," she said.
However, Dara Naquiah said a letter of demand has been sent to Ismail's lawyers for RM50 million in compensation for damages and an apology.
Her lawyer M Puravalen said that the letter had not been acknowledged so far.
She said that the priority now is to seek criminal charges against her son's assailants and a civil suit may be filed at a later date.
