Two Selangor Pakatan Rakyat allies - PAS and DAP - today buried the hatchet over the Selcat debacle that has going on for the past month.

After a two-hour meeting at the Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam, state PAS commissioner and state exco Hasan Ali said that both parties agreed to avoid public spats that could put the Pakatan-led state in a bad light.

"There is a lot of room for cooperation. Although we have differences on policies and principles, we are sure that any problem could be resolved based on our comradeship," Hasan told a packed press conference.

DAP and PAS were feuding over the Selangor Select Committee on Transparency, Accountability and Competency's (Selcat) ongoing public inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of the state funds by the previous Barisan Nasional government.

Hasan also got into a war of words with his PAS colleague and Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad after the latter criticised Hasan for his inconsistent statements.

And the feud did not stop there. State assembly speaker and Selcat's chair Teng Chang Khim had then lashed out at Hasan, accusing him of cooking up ‘ blatant lies '.

Khalid was absent from the meeting as he was not part of Dewan Harian while Teng was not present as he was away in Tanzania.

Avoid issuing public statements

Pakatan leaders also agreed not to issue public statements against each other on matters pertaining to state administration.

"We will meet and consult each other regularly to resolve any matter involving the two parties and stay united in all that we do," he said.

When asked if the Selcat issue has been resolved, Hasan replied: "In our opinion, the matter has long been resolved since the meeting with the menteri besar took place".

Among the DAP leaders at the meeting were Selangor chairperson Ean Yong Hian Wah, state exco members Teresa Kok and Ronnie Liu, together with Klang MP Charles Santiago while the PAS leaders included Selangor secretary Khairuddin Othman, information chief Roslan Shahir and deputy commissioner Iskandar Samad.

Hasan denies remarks

According to a source, during today's meeting, Hasan denied saying that civil servants were ‘ humiliated ' by Selcat's public inquiry committee.

NONE "He (Hasan) also denied calling for Liu's portfolio to be switched . He said he was misquoted by the media," said the source.

Hasan and Liu were not in agreement over the sale of beer in Muslim-majority areas in Shah Alam, prompting Hasan to urge the state government to switch Liu's portfolio.

The source further added that Hasan assured the Pakatan ally that the Islamic party will not betray the coalition in anyway.

Santiago said later that the next meeting will focus on structural approach to resolve problems as the existing mechanism was "not affective".

Currently, all Pakatan parties including PKR discuss issues and policies at fortnightly meetings.
